Request
My question is regarding public health.
A
Could you please tell me what the criteria is for a person to qualify for bariatric surgery?
B
Could you please tell me how many people are on the waiting list for this surgery?
C
Could you please tell me roughly how long a person might be expected to wait for this surgery?
Response
A
Jersey Health and Community Services apply (National Institute for health and Care Excellence) NICE criteria – Clinical Guideline CG189.
B
The number of patients that have been seen and listed, and have not as yet had surgery, is 32. Some of these patients are currently awaiting additional medical input before surgery.
C
Once listed for surgery by the surgeon, efforts are made for the operation to be undertaken within approximately three months. This depends on ITU bed availability and personal requests with regards to the timing of surgery.
