Reported accidents on Devonshire Place and Great Union Street (FOI)

Please supply the number of reported car accidents and collisions with pedestrians that have happened over the last 5 years in Devonshire Place, Great Union Road (the one way section) and Great Union Street.

Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, staff concerned with the production of Freedom of Information responses are working from home and have limited access to the States of Jersey Police systems. The below information is the best we can provide in the current climate.

Road Traffic collisions (RTC’s) are recorded by road name. A search of that road name will reveal all the RTC’s along that complete road. The below table includes all RTC’s on each of the roads requested.

Each of these incidents has been individually researched. Whilst it is not always possible from the limited information in the incident file to ascertain the exact location on the road, a table has been produced to show those RTC’s which did occur in the area around the British legion and the three roads that form the one way system.

Four RTC’s involving pedestrians occurred at the junction as a vehicle was turning, two when the driver was looking left, exiting Gt Union Street into Devonshire place. On both occasions, pedestrians crossed from the right as the driver was looking for traffic from the left before the vehicle attempted to turn.

Two other incidents occurred when the vehicle turned into Gt Union Road from Devonshire place, striking pedestrians as they crossed the road.
