Request
In relation to Fisheries, I understand there is an exclusion zone to diving / being in possession of Scallops to the east of the Island. Will you please provide the following:
A
The precise coordinates that make up this “box”?
B
Are there any other exclusion zones?
C
An A4 “chart” (printed on a piece of paper will do) with this box marked? (I understand this is online, but is not very clear showing the exact position.
Response
A
The ‘exclusion zone’ is a subtidal aquaculture concession which has been licenced for the commercial seeding and harvesting of scallops.
The licence covers an area of seabed situated at the southern part of St Catherine’s Bay, measuring approximately 50 hectares (278 vergées).
The following table provides the concessions co-ordinates.
Concession Co-Ordinates (Datum WGS 84) |
North West corner | 49 o 12.783’N 002 o 01.218’W |
South West corner | 49 o 12.192’N 002 o 00.988’W |
South East corner | 49 o 12.192’N 002 o 00.748’W |
North East corner (Fara beacon) | 49 o 12.856’N 002o 00.479’W |
Please note that only the licensee is authorised to operate within the specified concession area.
B
There are no other subtidal areas subject to an aquaculture licence where diving for scallops is prohibited as at 6 July 2020. However, we would advise the applicant to check Ports of Jersey regulations with regard diving and fishing within areas that are covered by harbour limits.
