Request
Please would you set out the powers and duties of the boards of governors of each of the four state secondary schools, and from which law, regulation or decision those are derived; and provide the Minister's latest policy statement relating to the nature, role, size and structure of the governing bodies, and on how she meets and consults with, and relates to, them in the formulation of policy and budgets.
Response
The Education (Jersey) Law 1999 sets out the establishment of governing bodies along with their functions. The Education Minister has delegated senior representatives from the Department for Children, Young People, Education and Skills to attend the Board of Governor meetings for each school. At these meetings, the Governing Body conducts its business, including its decision-making. As part of the Education Reform Programme the Minister for Education has indicated that she wishes to review the Governance of Jersey schools.
