Request
"A guide to your COVID-19 vaccination" leaflet was delivered to multiple addresses predominantly on the same day. Is this safe?
I am asking about the live virus and distribution of such leaflets, not the vaccine.
Response
The current Government guidance does not specify the restrictions around promotional activity such as leaflet distribution. The legislation does not ban such activity if carried out for work purposes. An interaction with one party outdoors is relatively low risk if carried out correctly and within safe guidelines. If deemed as “reasonably necessary” and as a normal business practice and if other options were not practical, such visits would not be in contravention of the current regulations. Leaflet distribution can continue if the safe guidance and social distancing guidelines are followed.
A decision was taken by Government of Jersey to deliver leaflets about vaccination to Islanders, some of whom are elderly and do not have access to technology and e-media. For these demographics of the population, for the purpose of knowledge sharing, distribution of leaflets was found to be the only mode of communication that was appropriate. The distribution of leaflets was undertaken by Jersey Post in a COVID safe way: risk assessed, staff trained, appropriate face coverings used, physically distanced and so on.
