Request
How many individuals / critical workers based in the UK have the right to enter Jersey without quarantine at present / next two weeks?
What are the categories of critical workers allowed to enter Jersey from the UK without quarantine?
Response
The number of individuals who, as at 20 April, have obtained an exemption to leave isolation for work purposes is:
Week commencing 6 March - 191
Week commencing 12 April - 193
Week commencing 19 April - 170
Week commencing 26 April - 42
Categories of essential workers include: engineers (aircraft, civil, bio-medical, mechanical); asbestos removers; construction workers; delivery drivers; crane operators; air ambulance crew.
Individuals are granted exemptions solely for the purposes of undertaking essential work, including travel to and from work. They must return directly home / to their accommodation after work. When not at work they must self-isolate.
Critical workers are required to submit a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to their arrival into Jersey. They are required to take a test on arrival and must isolate until they receive a negative result for that test (unless in very exceptional circumstances). They are still required to be tested on days five and 10.
The Contact Tracing, Monitoring and Enforcement team, in partnership with colleagues from Jersey Customs and Immigration Service and States of Jersey Police, undertake checks to confirm individuals are in self-isolation outside of the exemption allowance.
In partnership with the Health and Safety Inspectorate, the Contact Tracing, Monitoring and Enforcement team also undertake visits to workplaces to ensure that segregation and other health and safety measures are sufficient and as described in the exemption application.
