Request

I would like to know how much the Government of Jersey paid in subsidies to Victoria College in the years 2015-2020 and how much they paid in subsides to Jersey College for Girls in the same period

Response

This information can be found in a previous Freedom of Information response published at the following link:

School subsidies (FOI)

In addition, the table below shows the extra funding which was allocated to the schools in 2020 in respect of financial pressures arising from Covid-19.

Jersey College for Girls (JCG)

Victoria College (VC)

Lost Income re Covid-19 £75,000 £92,000
Hardship Fund£1,880£10,600
Other Covid-19 Costs £103,000£66,000

Total

£179,880

£168,600

The ‘lost income’ relates to a reduction in targeted income as a result of a decision to defer annual fee increases from September 2020 to the following year.

Hardship Fund. This grant provided financial assistance for school fees to families whose income was impacted by the pandemic.

Other Covid-19 Costs – all schools including JCG and VC were given additional budget to compensate for unbudgeted costs which were incurred directly as a specific result of covid-19 – for example increased cleaning, signage, minor alterations such as the erection of marquees to increase space and allow compliance with physical distancing requirements.
