Hospital admissions following a Covid-19 vaccination (FOI)

I refer to a previous Freedom of Information response published on 28 April 2021 at the following link:

A

For the same period of the 307 individuals admitted to Jersey General Hospital within 28 days of their first dose of a Covid-19 Vaccination and further 53 admitted within 28 days of their second dose please advise how many were admitted as a result of accidents or injuries resulting in physical trauma (such as traffic accidents, injuries in the workplace, accidents at home and so on) ie as opposed to feeling unwell (the "Remaining Admissions").

After deducting those admissions please advise how many of the Remaining Admissions had received the AstraZeneca vaccine and how many had received the Pfizer Vaccine or any other similar Covid-19 vaccine.

C

Please advise the age bands of the Remaining Admissions using the same age bands as on the Covid-19 Vaccinations Statistics web page again split by vaccine type.

D

Please advise how many of the Remaining Admissions tested positive for Covid-19 and how many of the 55 people who died after the first vaccine and 16 who died after the second vaccine were included in the Remaining Admissions figures.

E

Please advise the number of emergency admissions calculated on the same basis as for the 307 and 53 emergency admissions referred to in the initial response for the same period ie 13 December to 31 March over the five preceding years and the number of deaths over those same five years.

Inpatient admission data can only be queried for diagnoses and procedures coding. This does not give information in relation to the reason for admission – eg as the result of an accident. It has not been possible to undertake further analysis and provide a response to these questions within the 12.5 hour limit therefore Article 16 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.

Using the same definitions as in the original question, the number of emergency admissions to Jersey General Hospital in each year were as shown in the following table:

Based on date of death, the number of deaths in those same time periods were:

*Please note on further analysis of the deaths data held in the Public Health Deaths Database, a duplicate record has been found and removed. This has not impacted on the result for the number of deaths which occurred within 28 days of a first or second dose of the vaccine.

To date there have been no deaths registered with any narrative referring to complications due to the COVID-19 vaccine.

Article 16 A scheduled public authority may refuse to supply information if cost excessive

(1) A scheduled public authority that has been requested to supply information may refuse to supply the information if it estimates that the cost of doing so would exceed an amount determined in the manner prescribed by Regulations.

Regulation 2 (1) of the Freedom of Information (Costs) (Jersey) Regulations 2014 allows an authority to refuse a request for information where the estimated cost of dealing with the request would exceed the specified amount of the cost limit of £500. This is the estimated cost of one person spending 12.5 working hours in determining whether the department holds the information, locating, retrieving and extracting the information.
