Request

Please provide the percentage and the number of 'English as a second language students' who require specialist extra support of the 46% attending at the school.

What is the specialist staff to student ratio receiving additional support for English as a second language.

Response

Support for English as an Additional Language (EAL) students is based on the BELL Foundation Assessment tool, where support varies from in-class support from the subject teacher, to more focussed support from the EAL team.

Of the 46% (260) EAL students who attend Haute Vallee 6.2% (16) of the highest need students are currently provided with extra support from the EAL Team either within class, or out of class, where more targeted support is required.

The student to EAL teacher ratio varies from one Student / one Staff to four Students / one Staff.
