Request
Could you please confirm which way each Minister (including Assistant Ministers if represented) voted regarding the Council of Minister's decision to not welcome Syrian Refugees onto the Island. A decision revealed on 01/12/15.
Response
We have been unable to identify any statement made on 1 December 2015 revealing a vote by the Council of Ministers not to welcome Syrian refugees to the Island.
The Chief Minister did make a statement on the subject of Syrian refugees in the States Assembly where he stated: “It is that issue that has led me to accept, and the Council of Ministers, that as much as I may have wanted to help in this particular way, that it is no longer possible to do so.”
This response to Deputy Tadier does not refer to an actual vote that was taken by individual Ministers, it reflects discussions held at the weekly minsters’ political briefing for the week ahead meeting.
These meetings are not minuted.
This response has been issued on behalf of the States Greffe. The States Greffe is responsible for the information held by (and on behalf of) both itself and the States Assembly. Neither the States Assembly nor the States Greffe form part of the Government of Jersey and the Government was not involved either in the examination and retrieval of any information required for this response, nor in the drafting of the response itself.
