Request
A
Was J4 previously always displayed on the Lieutenant-Governor's official car and, if so, since when?
B
Are the numbers J1, J2 and J3 assigned for use by the Lieutenant-Governor's office?
C
What registration number is now displayed on the official car (or cars)?
D
Is, or was, there a dispensation exempting the official car from the need to display a registration number?
Response
A
The Lieutenant-Governor has access to the two official vehicles detailed below:
- a limousine, which is not required to display a vehicle registration plate and
- an alternative vehicle which is currently registered under J152926 since the auction of the J4 registration.
It should be noted that the Lieutenant-Governor’s limousine has been exempted from the standard vehicle registration requirement under the Motor Vehicle Registration (Jersey) Law 1993, therefore, no registration number is required.
The J4 registration was first assigned to one of the Lieutenant-Governor’s vehicles in 1950.
B
Historically, the Inspector of Motor Traffic has made J2 available to the Lieutenant-Governor for one of their personal vehicles during their term of office.
J1 and J3 are assigned to vehicles belonging to private individuals.
C
Please see response to question A.
D
Please see response to question A.
It should be noted that the Office of the Lieutenant-Governor is not a Scheduled Public Authority under the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011, however, they have agreed to the release of this information held by the Driver and Vehicles Standards section within Infrastructure, Housing and Environment.
