All civil servants who first became a member of the Public Employees Contributory Retirement Scheme (PECRS) between 1 January 2006 and 31 December 2015 can receive an unreduced final salary pension from the age of 65.

All civil servants employed since 1 January 2016 have joined the Public Employees Pension Scheme (PEPS) and can receive an unreduced career average pension from their Normal Retiring Age which is linked to their State Pension Age (between ages 65 and 67).

Between 1 January 2004 and 31 December 2015, civil servants joined the Public Employees Contributory Retirement Scheme (PECRS). The PECRS is a final salary pension scheme with an accrual rate for civil servants of 1/80th.

Since 1 January 2016, all new civil servants have joined the Public Employees Pension Scheme (PEPS). This is a career average pension scheme with an accrual rate of 1/66th. All existing civil servant servants, with the exception of those within seven years of retirement at the end of December 2018, were moved to the PEPS career average scheme for future accrual on 1 January 2019.
