Please provide a breakdown of the following from 2013 to to date:
i) the number of sexual assault crimes reported to police
ii) the number of these crimes which resulted in someone being charged and given a court appearance
iii) the number of these crimes which resulted in a sentencing, either imprisonment or suspended sentences
Response
The attached spreadsheet shows the number of recorded sexual assaults for the requested time period. It should be noted that in many cases, an investigation may be complex and protracted, resulting in an individual being charged in a subsequent year to when the offence was initially recorded.
The categories of sexual offences included are:
- Abuse of trust by a sexual act against a female child
- Administering a substance for sexual purposes
- Causing or inciting a sexual act with a female child 12 or younger
- Causing or inciting a sexual act with a male child 12 or younger
- Causing or inciting a sexual act with an older female child
- Causing or inciting a sexual act with an older male child
- Causing sexual act without consent
- Gross indecency
- Gross indecency with child
- Indecent assault on a female
- Indecent assault on a male
- Rape of a female
- Rape of a female child aged 12 or younger
- Rape of a male
- Rape of a male child aged 12 or younger
- Sexual penetration of a female child aged 12 or younger
- Sexual penetration of a female without consent
- Sexual penetration of a male child aged 12 or younger
- Sexual penetration of a male without consent
- Sexual touching of a female child aged 12 or younger
- Sexual touching of a male child aged 12 or younger
- Sexual touching of a female without consent
- Sexual touching of a male without consent
- Unlawful sexual penetration of an older female child
- Unlawful sexual touching of an older female child
- Unlawful sexual touching of an older male child
- USI (unlawful sexual intercourse) with girl under 16 yrs.
- Buggery
- Incest
- Sexual Activity with a child – abuse of a position of trust
- Unlawful sexual intercourse with an older female child
- Unlawful sexual penetration of an older male child
- USI with a girl under 13 yrs.
- Administer drugs to obtain intercourse (attempted)
- Committing a prohibited act with any other person suffering from a Mental Disorder
