Following the school closures as a result of teacher strikes on12, 13 and 14 December 2023, please provide the following information in relation to all States of Jersey primary and secondary schools (including the two fee paying colleges and their preparatory schools):

A

A list showing which schools were (a) totally closed on the strike days (b) partially open for some pupils, (c) open for all pupils?

B

For schools that were partially open what were the total numbers of pupils (broken down by school) who were (a) able to attend and (b) told to remain at home?

C

A list broken down by school giving the number of teachers in each school who (a) worked normally (albeit possibly without pupils) and (b) the total who were on strike and did not attend for work.

Please see the attached Table 1 showing which Government of Jersey schools were totally closed, partially open for some pupils and open for all pupils during the strike days on the 12, 13 and 14 December 2023.

For those schools that were partially open please see attached Tables 2 to 4 showing a breakdown for the total numbers of pupils who attended and those who remained at home during the three-day strike.

Please see attached Tables 5 to 7 showing a breakdown by Government of Jersey schools the number of teachers either in school and the total who were on strike and did not attend for work.

Please note in some instances staff were recorded as “off for other reasons” or “not scheduled to work”. It is not possible to provide any further breakdown as it is likely it could breach the privacy of individuals therefore disclosure control has been applied under Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011.

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018.

(2) Information is absolutely exempt information if –

(a) it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is not the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018; and

(b) its supply to a member of the public would contravene any of the data protection principles, as defined in that Law.​​
