Staff in Health and Community Services’ (HCS’) Pharmacy are not assigned to work exclusively in the dispensary, but work collaboratively to deliver all services outlined below. Additionally, when working in the dispensary, responsibilities are not limited to dispensing medicines.

HCS Pharmacy service provision includes:

  • Clinical pharmacy services to patients of Jersey General Hospital and Mental Health services
  • Digital services for pharmacy and medicines digital systems
  • Medicines governance, safety, and optimisation
  • Aseptic services providing chemotherapy treatments and other critical injectable medicines in a specialist ‘aseptic’ unit
  • Medicines information service
  • Dispensary services preparing medication for in-patients, outpatients and patients being discharged from hospital
  • Procurement, purchasing, receipt, storage and distribution of all medicines for inpatient and outpatients
  • Procurement and distribution of vaccines for Island-wide vaccination, including childhood, Influenza and Covid-19 vaccine
  • Regulation of medicines and pharmacies, including controlled drugs and the licensing of any related activities.

All HCS Pharmacy staff in clinical / frontline roles are pharmacy assistants, pharmacy technicians or pharmacists. Pharmacy technicians and pharmacists are professionally registered healthcare staff, some of whom are also managers.
