Paediatric eating disorders treatment and statistics (FOI)

​Please provide statistics,​​ for 2020 to 2024, regarding:

A

Paediatric eating disorders admissions to the General Hospital. 

B

Paediatric eating disorders admissions to CAMHS. 

C

Paediatric eating disorders admissions to seek treatment off island. 

D

Information regarding the payment of off-island treatment whether it is a burden on the family, or if this is supported by the Government of Jersey. 

E

Frequency of mental health specialists or eating disorder nurses attendance and presence in Robin Ward. 

F

The uptake of the Eating Disorder Clinic that is now available.

From January 2020 to December 2023, 15 individuals under 18 years of age have been admitted with an eating disorder recorded as the main condition requiring care, monitoring or treatment. This figure includes admissions to Jersey General Hospital under Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).

Due to small numbers, disclosure control has been applied and annual admission figures are not provided, as doing so could breach the personal data of individuals. Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.

Referral data for admissions is not available to report from a central record. A Freedom of Information response published to www.gov.je in October 2023 includes information regarding young people treated off-island for eating disorders:

As information is available elsewhere, Article 23 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.

If a referral for treatment off-island is made by a Government of Jersey service, this would be funded.

The information requested is not held in a central record, though will be documented within individual patient records. A Scheduled Public Authority is not required to create new datasets in order to respond to Freedom of Information requests, and Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.

CAMHS does not have specific eating disorder clinics. Figures for those receiving care for an eating disorder are available in the October 2023 Freedom of Information response linked above.

Health and Community Services’ Eating Disorder Clinic is attended by adult service users only. 

Articles applied

Article 3 - Meaning of “information held by a public authority”

For the purposes of this Law, information is held by a public authority if –

(a)     it is held by the authority, otherwise than on behalf of another person; or

(b)     it is held by another person on behalf of the authority.

Article 25 - Personal information

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018.

(2) Information is absolutely exempt information if –

(a) it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is not the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018; and

(b) its supply to a member of the public would contravene any of the data protection principles, as defined in that Law.​
