Request
Please confirm if the Government of Jersey has had any involvement in the UK-Israel Trade Negotiations to date? Including any meetings, discussions or communications on the Trade Agreement internally with Jersey government staff or with UK or Israeli officials.
Response
The United Kingdom (UK) has a constitutional obligation to represent Jersey’s (and the other Crown Dependencies’) interests internationally. Jersey currently does not negotiate international trade agreements on a bilateral basis. The UK enters into discussions with third country parties and then reports back to Jersey on any development, progress, or key areas of discussion when appropriate.
The Government of Jersey’s Ministers and officials have not had direct contact with Israel regarding the UK-Israel Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Prior to the current conflict, External Relations officials had two meetings on this FTA with senior officials from the UK Government in order to receive updates on the negotiations, and Government of Jersey officials had two meetings internally on this FTA.
