Request
There are two resource provisions named for deaf children where deafness is their primary need. These are:
- St Clement's School (Nursery and Primary)
- Le Rocquier School (Secondary)
Please confirm the resource provisions or advise if these are no longer for deaf children where deafness is the primary need. If the latter, please confirm whether there was a consultation with deaf children and their families about this.
Response
The resource provisions at St Clement's School and Le Rocquier School are no longer for deaf children where deafness is the primary need as we do not currently have any deaf children requiring such resource.
There are two Teachers of the Deaf available to serve the whole island therefore deaf children are able to attend their catchment school and the Teacher of the Deaf visits them according to their need within their setting.
As a result, the provisions were repurposed in response to the islands SEND requirements.
There was a full consultation process with the staff working within the Additional Resource Centres (ARCs), individual parents and children, and the school communities. The schools that hosted the ARCs informed their families and the Jersey Deaf Partnership were fully informed of the changes at every stage.
