How many referrals have been made to specialists at the hospital for teenagers who have self-harmed from 2015 to date?

How many referrals have been made to specialists at the hospital for adults who have self-harmed from 2015 to date?

How many referrals have been made to specialists at the hospital for teenagers who have self-harmed from 2015 to date?

Please confirm, by age and by sex, the number of people who have been treated in the Emergency Department due to self-harm from 2015 to date.

Referral data are not held in a format that allows identification and reporting of instances where self-harm is documented as a reason for referral to mental health specialists. Such information would be documented in individual case notes, but cannot be identified from central records. Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.

Data for attendances at Jersey General Hospital’s Emergency Department due to self-harm, annually from 2015 to 2023, and from January 2024 to July 2024 (inclusive), are provided in the attached tables.

​Figures detail the total number of attendances. Individuals may attend more than once in the same time period, with each attendance counted.

Table 1 details attendances for each time period broken down by age group. Information on the gender of those attending for each time period is provided in Table 2.

For the purposes of this Law, information is held by a public authority if –

(a)     it is held by the authority, otherwise than on behalf of another person; or

(b)     it is held by another person on behalf of the authority.​​
