Proposed wind farm visual impact (FOI)

Proposed wind farm visual impact (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by Government of Jersey and published on 24 October 2024.
Prepared internally, no external costs.

Request

Will the proposed wind farm in Jersey waters comply with ' CAP764 CAA Policy and Guidelines on Wind Turbines,' with particular reference to the requirement for perimeter marking by fixed red 2000 candela nacelle lights and given the possible height of the structures , intermediate lighting and /or strobe lighting flashing a morse code (often W)?

All artist impressions publicly available show a subjective' low' visual impact from shore during daylight, I have not been able to find any images or comments about the nighttime visual impact , where can these be found ?

Response

The Government's proposals for a wind farm in Jersey waters is currently in the early stages of development and the level of detail requested is currently not held. Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.

In April 2024, the States Assembly agreed that Jersey should pursue the opportunities arising from the development of an offshore windfarm in the south-west of its territorial waters. Officers are currently drafting necessary policy and legislation to enable the project to be progressed.

Once the draft legislation has been lodged in the States Assembly a dedicated Scrutiny Review Panel will launch a full and formal review and a call for evidence which will include holding public hearings and inviting submissions. Article 35 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has therefore been applied.
