Request

Carbon filters at the hospital catering unit

Please could I have the following relating to the hospital catering unit at St Peter’s Technical Park since February 2023.

A

Each of the dates that any carbon filters were installed.

B

Each of the dates that any carbon filter upgrades were installed.

C

A breakdown of checks taken out on the carbon filters and what the results of those checks were.

D

Any companies that the Government has paid for the installation of carbon filters and how much was spent.

A breakdown of the money spent on carbon filters.

Response

A and B

Filters were installed and upgraded, as below:

  • August 2023
  • March 2024
  • September 2024

C

Filters are changed biannually as part of the Health and Community Services (HCS) Estates Planned Maintenance programme. As noted in the previous Freedom of Information response on this matter (linked below), which was published to www.gov.je in May 2023, the biannual change is more frequent than that recommended by the manufacturer in consideration of neighbouring residences. At these biannual checks, filters have been noted to contain signs of food grease and are disposed of appropriately.

D

The requested information is available in the May 2023 Freedom of Information response referenced and linked above. Therefore, Article 23 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.

E

Costs are £3,500 per change of filter sets. This is higher than when previously reported, due to inflation uplift and additional labour costs to break the filter components down before disposing at the La Collette recycling centre.

Article applied
