4
Is there any left?
Response
1
The Government of Jersey invited the public, via local and social media channels, to contact the Solid Waste team within Infrastructure and Environment to indicate their interest in obtaining wood from Storm Ciaran.
They were also asked to advise how much wood they wanted, the type of collection vehicle and the intended use.
The interest was much greater than anticipated and requests exceeded the amount of wood held at La Collette.
The applications were filtered by removing any that had not provided the requested information, where the proposed collection vehicle could not be loaded on the site and those requesting specific sizes or species that were not available.
The remaining requests were assessed regarding the proposed use of wood and projects with a greater social or environmental impact were prioritised over requests regarding heating fuel.
2 and 3
The three charitable organisations, listed below along with 32 private individuals were successful in their application for the storm wood.
- St Mary’s Youth & Community Centre
- Jersey Winter Warmers
- Racc’moder
It should be noted that wood was not distributed to any companies.
The names of the individuals are exempt in accordance with Article 25 (Personal Information) of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011.
The proposed uses for the distributed wood included, but were not limited to, environmental restoration, a children’s play area, garden seating, instrument making, artistic expression and historic building preservation.

All of the wood was distributed.
