Referring to the following previously published Freedom of Information response (ReportID 7227 from 4th March 2024 

Number of staff and children in education system (FOI)​

I am writing to request further information regarding the staffing of the Children, Young People, Education and Skills (CYPES) department.

Specifically, I request the following:

1. A detailed breakdown of the total number of staff employed within the CYPES department, categorised as follows:

A) Frontline Staff:

  • Teachers
  • Teaching Assistants/ LSA 
  • Social workers
  • Care Workers
  • Support workers
  • SENCOs
  • other in school/care home workers (caretakers, canteen workers, cleaners)

B) Administrative/Managerial Staff

  • In-school (administrative/Managerial staff based within schools)
  • Department-based (administrative/Managerial staff working directly for the department and not based in schools/care homes) divided into the following sub-groups:
  • social workers/care workers and related administration
  • •Trackers programme
  • Skills Jersey
  • Student finance
  • Trident

C) Other (please list any job roles not covered by the descriptions above and include location where duties are performed “frontline” or “in department”) 

2. The total wage bill for:

A, B and C (please separate C into “Frontline” / “In department”)

The below table represents employees of CYPES broken down by pay group and the full-time equivalent headcount as extracted from our payroll data.

The department have determined that to interrogate each employee’s record for their location and job title would exceed the 12.5 hours allowed for Freedom of Information responses in accordance with Regulation 2 (1) of the Freedom of Information (Costs) (Jersey) Regulations 2014. Article 16 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has therefore been applied.

​The data excludes any individual not on our payroll (such as agency and contingent workers), any non-states workers (such as panel members), as well as any zero-hour employees. Employees with more than one role are counted for in each role, so that their total FTE is included. Social workers, care workers and support workers are counted as civil servants. Caretakers, canteen workers and cleaners in schools are counted as manual workers.

As per the information supplied in question 1, the total wage bill for CYPES is £181,155,708 as at October 2024.
