Request

After completing resurfacing of certain main roads recently (e.g. St John and St Mary), the central dividing line markings have not been restored in certain parts.

Why is this?

Response

For all carriageway resurfacing schemes the road markings are assessed against the most recent design guidance before being reinstated. Whilst numerous factors need to be considered, in general terms current guidance advises the centre markings should be omitted on sections of carriageway where the effective width is less than 5.5m.
