I would like to know how many accidents occur on the cycle and pedestrian path between Bel Royal and the Gunsite Cafe, and whether note is taken of the seriousness of the accident, the cause of the accident and how many cyclists and pedestrians are hurt.
Response
There were a total of five recorded incidents involving bicycles on the entire Victoria Avenue cycle track in 2014 and 2015. It is not possible to narrow the location down to a specific section of the track.
Four of the calls were categorised as red, the most serious, and one as amber. All of these incidents involved a cyclist but it is not possible to distinguish from the data available whether the person injured was a cyclist or a pedestrian.
The Health and Social Services Department is unable to identify patients self-referring to the Emergency Department following a bicycle accident as this level of location data is not recorded.
