3. The Jersey SEND Code of Practice states that every teacher is a teacher of Special Educational Needs (SEN). All teachers are both responsible and accountable for the progress and development of all pupils in their class, including those pupils who access support from teaching assistants or specialist staff. Where support staff work with pupils with SEN, the teacher has overall responsibility for those pupils and must ensure that they make appropriate progress.
You can read the Jersey SEND Code of Practice here: https://www.gov.je/SiteCollectionDocuments/Education/P%20SEN%20Code%20of%20practice%20%28Under%20Review%29%2020240214GW.pdf
4. Each ARP within a Government of Jersey school has base funding for core staff. This includes Teachers, Key Workers, Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Assistants (LSA). Schools can allocate titles as they wish, however, Key Workers, Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Assistants are all part of the Teaching Assistant framework. One Government of Jersey school with an ARP currently has a post titled Learning Support Assistant.
Government of Jersey schools publish information about training on their SEND Information reports on their websites.
5. LSAs are paid on the same pay scale as teaching assistants.
6. All Government of Jersey schools apply appropriate support to suit the individual pupil’s needs and keep this under review.
