Total annual wages paid to teachers including overtime (FOI)

​The Freedom of Information Request entitled ‘Total annual wages paid to teachers’ dated 3 March 2022 set out the total salary costs paid to teachers (including heads and SLT’s) in 2020.

The response referenced the fact that the reported numbers comprised, amongst other things, Overtime.

Please can you confirm what percentage of teachers (including heads and SLT’s) are eligible for Overtime and in the event the answer is ‘None’ why this was mentioned at the time, in the 2022 FOI response.

No teachers are eligible for overtime under current contractual arrangements.

In 2022 the reference to overtime refers to exceptional payments made to some staff in 2020, funded by Covid Recovery.  At the start of tutoring financed urgently by the Covid Recovery Fund, this was the only payment method available.  As the programme continued into 2021 and 2022 the process moved to these staff being issued with a second contract for their additional role, Additional Tutoring provided outside the standard Teachers Contracted hours. As in 2020, these were funded by the Covid Recovery Fund which closed in 2023. ​
