1) Please provide a copy of the current hospital policy concerning seizures.

2) Please provide a copy of the previous policy on seizures that was replaced by this one and provide the date that the new policy took effect.

Thank you

Clarification:

The policy I am looking for would be dealing with people who have had/are having their first seizure and would be presenting at A & E. I believe they might be called ‘Grand Mal’ seizures.

Response

Health and Care Jersey (HCJ) does not have dedicated policies for the management of either a first seizure or Grand Mal seizures of unspecified aetiology. Therefore, Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.

In the absence of ratified Department-specific policy for the particular diagnosis or circumstances, HCJ policy is to ‘implement the guidelines provided by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) or Royal Colleges across all clinical services for public and private patients to provide evidence based best practice care.’.

Care and treatment will be determined by the patient’s presentation, underlying cause(s) of seizure activity, and be tailored to the individual as directed by best practice guidelines.

NICE guidelines can be found on the NICE website at the following link:
