Following the Dallas police using a device on a bomb robot to blow up a suspect, can the Jersey police advise if we have a bomb or explosive available at short notice that could be used in a similar way?
B
Do we have any guidelines or remit to officers to use such a device and if so, what are they?
Many thanks in advance and this is a direct FOI request after the awful news of a Dallas police force being equipped and ready with a remote for such a device to kill a suspect rather than to wait out a siege.
See Dallas shooting Friday 8th July 2016 for detail.
Response
A
In accordance with the College of Policing Authorised Professional Practice, the States of Jersey Police has a full range of options to deal with firearms incidents in the Island. It is not our normal practice to comment on the specifics of our operational capability. However, in the given circumstances we are able to report that the tactic used in Dallas does not feature in Jersey’s firearms training or response.
B
As the use of such device does not feature within the States of Jersey Police’s firearms training or response, there are no guidelines or remit issued to officers.
