Review of representations received
1-4 Fauxbie Villas were not included on the first Historic Buildings Register in 1992, but added as BLIs later in 1998 by the Jersey Building Heritage Sub-Committee.
The recent resurvey recommended that the houses should become Listed Buildings.
An appeal representation was submitted by MS Planning, on behalf of the owners, in June 2014.
This appeal sets out information showing that the houses were built in 1933-34, rather than the 1920s identified in the resurvey, and this has a fundamental impact on the assessment of their architectural and historical interest.
It is agreed that the assessment of more recent buildings for Listing should be more critical and selective, and that Fauxbie Villas are conservative in their form and design for the mid-1930s, at a time when Modern movement and Art Deco inspired houses were being built.
Conclusion
De-list.
Although this group of houses have many external features surviving, their architectural design is modest and somewhat conservative for the mid-1930s, and cannot be regarded as a significant contribution to the development of Jersey houses of this period.
