Notice of Intent to List as Site of Special Interest:
The Hollies, La Rue du Crocquet, St. Brelade.
This report has been prepared by the Jersey Heritage Trust as part of its responsibility under a Service Level Agreement to provide reports and recommendations to the Minister for Planning and Environment on the registration of historic buildings and sites.
The Planning and Environment Department requested in February 2008 that the Jersey Heritage Trust assess the architectural, historical and other interests of The Hollies ahead of discussions with the Ministerial Registration and Listing Advisory Group.

Relevant interests of the site (see schedule for details)
The Hollies is a late seventeenth century merchant’s house that is of exceptional significance to the architectural history of Jersey. Of particular note are the earliest known surviving examples of timber sash windows in Jersey, and one of the earliest surviving timber staircases in the Island, dating to 1683.
Advice received (MRLAG or others)
MRLAG discussed The Hollies at its meeting on 25 February 2008. Members were unanimous that the property should be listed as an SSI as set out in the accompanying schedule and plan.
JHT recommendation
The Hollies is of special historical and architectural interest and should be listed as a Site of Special Interest.
It is recommended that the Minister for Planning and Environment approve the serving of the Intention to List Notice in accord with the requirements of the Law.
Justification relating to criteria
The special interest of The Hollies, as defined on the schedule and assessed relative to the published criteria for selection, justifies its inclusion on the List of Sites of Special Interest in accordance with the provisions and purposes of the Planning and Building (Jersey) Law 2002.
