INCREASE IN FEES 2009
AND AMENDMENT TO CBT PASS CERTIFICATES
PURPOSE OF THE REPORT
To consider the Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) (Amendment No 11) (Jersey) Order 2008, which will increase fees from 01 January 2009. To further consider the abolishing of the three year validity on motorcycle compulsory basic training certificates.
BACKGROUND
On the basis of Ministerial Decision MD-T-2008-0104, it was decided to increase fees for driving test services provided by Driver and Vehicle Standards by approximately 2.5 per cent, in line with States policy. Ministerial Decision MD-T-2008-0087 also agreed to remove the three year validity on CBT pass certificates.
DISCUSSION
The Law Draftsman was asked to prepare the necessary changes to the Order on the basis of a brief provided by the Department.
The draft Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) (Amendment No 11) (Jersey) Order 2008
is attached for the Minister to make the Order. Making the Order will implement the increase in charges, remove the three year validity on CBT pass certificates and will come into force on 01 January 2009.
RECOMMENDATION
The Minister is recommended to make the Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) (Amendment No 11) (Jersey) Order 2008 and request the Department to take the necessary action to implement the Order.
REASON(S) FOR DECISION
To make the Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) (Amendment No 11) (Jersey) Order 2008, to allow an increase in fees in line with States policy and the removal of the three year validity on CBT pass certificates.
ACTION REQUIRED
Minister to sign, seal and date the said Order.
Request the Publications Editor to publish details of the said Order in the Gazette.
DVS to amend its website and driving and theory booking systems.
