Planning and Environment Department Launch Customer Charter

29 June 2009

29 June 2009

The Planning and Environment Department is launching its first ever Customer Charter to ensure that Islanders know what level of service they can expect from the Department. The Charter covers a whole range of the Department’s services from the States Vet to Environmental Protection to Building Control.

In addition, it is supported by a package of information that has been specifically designed to help customers submit better planning applications, thereby reducing frustrations and ensuring quicker application turn around times. This includes details of a new pre-application advice service, a Step-by-Step Guide which clearly outlines each stage of the planning application process and an information leaflet explaining how to complete planning application forms.

Andrew Scate, Chief Executive of the Planning and Environment Department said: “Launching the Customer Charter is a positive step forward in the development and delivery of customer focused services across the whole Department. It signifies our commitment to all our customers, whether they are farmers, pet owners, builders, waste operators or homeowners. In addition, it provides targets against which we can be publicly measured, helping ensure transparency and efficiency in our public services”.

Mike Waddington, President of the Association of Jersey Architects said: “The Association of Jersey Architects is one of the Planning and Environment Department’s key stakeholders and we were really pleased to have commented and offered our advice on the parts of the Customer Charter that affect our business.  The result is a document which will make the planning process more successful for everyone involved. Local architects are customers of the Department and, in truth, we share many of the same objectives, including delivering great architecture, and so of course we support this constructive initiative.”

The Customer Charter, the Step-by-Step Guide, details of the new pre-application advice service and the information leaflet can all be downloaded from www.gov.je/PlanningEnvironment.  Hard copies are available, on request, from the Planning and Building Service Reception at South Hill tel: 01534 445508
