Airport submit plans for arrivals terminal

14 April 2010

Jersey Airport has submitted a planning application to demolish the top 2 floors of the current arrivals building.

These areas currently house the air traffic control facilities and are due to be decommissioned once the new air traffic control centre becomes fully operational in early summer. Not only are the existing facilities now beyond economical repair but under safety laws set down by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the current centre is too close to the runway and therefore causes an obstruction. By removing the top 2 floors it is going some way towards addressing this safety requirement.

If the application is successful, enabling works will commence in autumn this year with the actual demolition process taking place over the winter period. Jersey Airport will continue to operate as normal with no inconvenience to passengers and airport users likely. Work is expected to be completed in time for the summer season 2011.
