Serious vehicle defects found in parish road check

11 June 2010

A number of vehicle registration and driving licence problems were found in the 191 vehicles that passed through a St. Clement road check on Tuesday 8 June 2010. The check was conducted by officers from Driver and Vehicle Standards (DVS), Customs and Immigration, States of Jersey Road Policing Unit and the Honorary Police of St. Clement.

One large commercial vehicle with a number of serious defects, was taken off the road and fourteen other drivers were issued with defect notices.

A driver of a foreign registered vehicle, who was living permanently in Jersey, will have to obtain a Jersey licence to continue driving and was told to register his vehicle in Jersey.  A Jersey licence holder was found driving a foreign registered vehicle and a regular visitor to the Island was found driving a foreign registered vehicle that had been declared off road in its home jurisdiction.

Inspector of Motor Traffic, Alan Muir commented, “Despite relatively few vehicles passing through this check it was very worthwhile as we discovered several people driving illegally or whose vehicles had  defects requiring attention to continue using the road safely."
