The Port of Jersey has confirmed a busy schedule for the Barclays Wealth Jersey Boat Show 2011 with many great events and attractions during the May Day Bank Holiday weekend.
The official opening of the Boat Show will take place at 12noon on Saturday 30 April on the main stage located on the New North Quay, past the Maritime Museum. The opening ceremony will be performed by Commodore Jamie Miller, Sir Tim McClement, the Commanding Officers of HMS Severn and HMS Raider and Mr and Miss St Helier. Festivities will then commence with music from African band, Ashiki.
Throughout the weekend, there will be several vessels open to the public. These include:
- the 79-metre River Class Offshore Patrol Vessel HMS Severn - open to the public between the hours of 10am and 4pm daily
- the States tug, Duke of Normandy, HMS Raider
- Fleur De Lampaul a historic French sailing vessel
The pontoons in the marina will be open to the public Saturday and Sunday 10am – 6pm and Monday 10am – 5pm, giving visitors the opportunities to view some of the most luxurious yachts on the market. More than 100 traders will be exhibiting their products and services; these will include luxury spas, a fishermen’s village, marine chandlery, local and French crafts.
Demonstrations by a wakeboarding team will be taking place throughout the weekend along with a celebrity paddleboard challenge. The RNLI Beach Lifeguards will also be showing life saving demonstrations with jet skis and rescue boards.
The highlight of the show promises to be the Saturday night film which will be screened from the deck of the Duke of Normandy. The silent film classic, Around Cape Horn, will be accompanied by live music from cellist, Gerard Le Feuvre. The evening will draw to a close with a stunning fireworks display at 9.10pm.
On Sunday morning at 10.40am His Excellency Lt Governor will inspect the uniformed cadets before presenting the Governor’s Cup to the best turned out guard. The annual Sea Sunday Service, performed by Vice Dean Paul Brooks, will commence at 11am.
Lieutenant General Andrew Ridgway CB, CBE.will then present The Jersey Cup for Sea Fisheries Protection to the Commanding Officer and crew of HMS Severn. Monday will be a day of further demonstrations and activities for all of the family.
