Census response 'brilliant'

01 April 2011

As of Friday 1 April 2011, just 5 days since census day, more than 32,000 census questionnaires have been returned and more continue to pour in.

It’s not too late to send back your completed questionnaire. Households who haven’t will receive reminder postcards next week, and then have a week or so to send back their completed questionnaire before collection officers are asked to call.

These officers will offer help and advice to those who need it and will supply replacement questionnaires if they have been lost or damaged. They will also remind people that their census response is required by law.

If you have lost your questionnaire, you can contact the census office for a replacement. If you have lost your prepaid envelope, you can return your questionnaire, without a stamp, to the Census Office, Freepost 2011, JE1 1AF, Jersey.

Dr Duncan Gibaut, Head of the States of Jersey Statistics Unit said “This is a fantastic response from Islanders. Thank you to everyone who has responded promptly. I’d like to remind others that if you haven’t returned your form yet, please do it now. Doing it quickly helps us keep the costs down.

“Whilst the response so far has been brilliant, we need to make sure everyone is counted. The census is important to all of us, as it is used to help plan and fund a range of services for communities such as transport, education and health."
