States-led trip to India and UAE

11 March 2011

Treasury and Resources Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf, and Assistant Chief Minister, UK and International Relations, Senator Freddie Cohen, will lead a 30-strong delegation to India from 12 March to 18 March 2011.

Senator Ozouf will then lead the delegation on to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 19 March to 22 March. The delegation will also include senior representatives from Jersey Finance Limited (JFL) and the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC).

The delegation will have a full itinerary of meetings and events in Mumbai, Delhi and Abu Dhabi, including:

  • the signing of a tax information exchange agreement (TIEA) with India, to take place in Delhi
  • the launches of 2 JFL offices – 1 in Mumbai, the other in Abu Dhabi
  • meetings with government ministers and key representatives from the legal and finance sectors in both India and the UAE
  • building on Jersey’s existing business and cultural ties with both countries

Also on the schedule are keynote addresses to invited audiences in all 3 cities, visits to leading Indian and Emirati companies that have established financial ties with Jersey, as well as specific trips to explore the Island’s cultural links with the host nations, such as Senator Cohen’s visit to the Durrell project in Assam.

Senator Ozouf commented “Jersey has been building commercial and political links with emerging markets in Asia and the Middle East for a number of years, and this trip will allow us to develop even closer ties with India and the UAE. By establishing a presence for Jersey Finance Limited in both of these important locations, Jersey is strengthening its reputation as a world-class offshore finance centre.”

Senator Cohen said “I look forward to promoting Jersey and developing cultural links with India.”
