Overtime changes for recycling staff

02 February 2012

Like every States department, Transport and Technical Services (TTS) is working to cut costs and improve efficiency.

The proposal to create one integrated Recycling Logistics team for its waste reception sites at Bellozanne and La Collette will increase flexibility across both sites. It will also ensure value for money for taxpayers by reducing operating costs (specifically weekend overtime) and it will increase the number of staff available to cover recycling reception duties.

The proposed changes focus on voluntary weekend working and will affect about 20 people. The department has assessed the work undertaken at weekends and is proposing that staff are paid the rate for that job, rather than the rate they receive for their regular weekday work.

TTS has been discussing these changes with union representatives and staff for 3 years and now needs to come to a conclusion which is fair and reasonable for all concerned. The department does not agree that this is a contractual issue and is happy to have further discussions with the relevant staff at any time.

TTS is working to put in place a modern, flexible workforce that provides value for money for taxpayers, as part of the States commitment to delivering efficient and effective services.
