Advice on possible bus strike

05 October 2012

The States have been informed that there is the possibility of industrial action by Connex employees on Monday 8 October.

Such action, if it does go ahead, would affect the school bus service. Parents are asked to make alternative arrangements to enable their children to travel safely to and from school if there is industrial action.

If a child is unable to travel to school then parents should contact their school for further information.

Advice for commuters

Transport and Technical Services (TTS) is offering advice to anyone affected by strike action: -

  • There may be more traffic on the roads so allow more time for your journey
  • Arrange to car share with friend, colleague or neighbour
  • Consider walking or cycling
  • If you want to use a taxi, book in advance to avoid disappointment
  • Consider working from home if you can
  • Pier Road Multi Storey car park normally has space for 250 cars - there may be some spare capacity in Patriotic Street and Green Street

Alternative arrangements

TTS Minister, Deputy Kevin Lewis said “Obviously this is a difficult situation for bus users and I’m very sorry for the inconvenience this will cause.

"On average there are about 12,000 public bus users every day at this time of year.  It is impossible to find an alternative means of transporting these people.

"I hope people will be understanding if the action dose go ahead, and offer lifts to people they know are regular bus users.  We are liaising with Tourism and Ports of Jersey to ensure travellers are informed.”

Bus users and parents are asked to check the local media, social media and the Connex website for up-to-date information.
