The registered unemployment report for January 2012 has been released by the Statistics Unit.
The latest report shows that:
- on a seasonally adjusted basis, the total number of people registered as unemployed and actively seeking work (ASW) in Jersey was 50 higher than a month earlier (December 2011) and 90 higher than the average for the preceding 3 months. It was the highest level recorded to date
- the non-seasonally adjusted ASW total was 1,700. This latest monthly total is 160 higher than a month earlier (December 2011), 310 higher than that of a year earlier (January 2011) and 500 higher than that of 2 years earlier (January 2010)
- the number of new registrants, having registering as unemployed in the latest 4-week period, was the highest recorded to date
- long-term unemployment (registered for more than 52 weeks) has doubled during the last 12 months and now accounts for almost 1 in 5 of total ASW
- 280 teenagers aged 16-19 years were registered as ASW
