Tall ship visits Jersey

23 November 2012

Members of the public will get the chance to visit a replica of an 18th century tall ship which is visiting Jersey for three days next week.

The Etoile du Roy is a 47 metre long replica of a Nelson-age ship. The vessel has featured in many films, as well as the ITV1 series, Hornblower, first broadcast in the 1990s. It is now a sailing museum.

It is due to arrive in Jersey waters on Monday evening, en route to St Katherine’s Docks, London where it will unload its cargo of Prince de Bretagne Roscoff pink onions for a trade and consumer fair.

Chance to buy pink onions

During its brief stop-over in Jersey, members of the public can visit the vessel. It will be  moored in St Helier Marina and is open from 11am to 6pm between Tuesday 27 and Thursday 29 November. Access to the ship is via the marina pontoon on the New North Quay (adjacent to the Maritime Museum) and admission is free. There’s even the opportunity whilst aboard to purchase some of its famous cargo – traditional pink French onions.

The vessel’s opening days and times may change depending on weather and tidal conditions. For further information contact the Marine Leisure Centre, New North Quay, St Helier by telephoning +44 (0)1534 447708.
