17 April 2013
An emergency exercise took place at La Collette today (17 April 2013).
The main site operators, businesses and occupiers of the La Collette Industrial area have been taking part in a simulated table top exercise to keep up to date on the arrangements for response and evacuation in the event of an incident on the site.
The emergency services briefed attendees on how they would deal with an emergency on the site and explained what response they would expect from the site operators and the businesses based there.
The exercise was arranged by the States of Jersey Emergency Planning Officer, Michael Long, working in partnership with the main businesses based in the area and the Emergency Services. It was planned in December 2012 to support the new signs installed last winter.
Michael Long said “The exercise focused on the arrangements for informing people who work at, or may be visiting, the La Collette Industrial area. It is important to keep businesses updated on the arrangements for responding to an emergency at the site. The recent false alarm at La Collette was purely coincidental but provided a real, live opportunity to test the arrangements.”
The exercise has provided an opportunity to launch a revised leaflet advising businesses on the emergency response (La Collette Area – Emergency Evacuation Advice leaflet). This updated leaflet was developed following meetings over the past few months and copies of it have been distributed to all the businesses which occupy the site.
