Les Quennevais land transfer to parish

 

The move to transfer the management of the areas will give the parish the authority to address concerns and develop ideas for future improvements in the areas. Currently, the parish is responsible for the roads and Jersey Property Holdings own the communal tarmacked and landscaped areas on behalf of the public.

 

The Assistant Minister for Treasury and Resources, Deputy Eddie Noel, who has responsibility for JPH, has signed an ‘in principle’ Ministerial Decision to transfer the land. “This transfer of management will end the confusion regarding responsibility between the two authorities. The parish is the more suitable authority for this work and is better equipped to liaise with parishioners over improvements to the two estates. It is a good example of constructive working between the States of Jersey and a parish,” said Deputy Noel.

 

The Connetable of St Brelade, Steve Pallett, said “I am aware that residents have concerns about aspects of the amenity areas and other areas on the two estates and the Parish Roads Committee are happy to have reached a solution with JPH. I am pleased that this proposal was agreed at a recent Parish Assembly and consider that there will be benefits to residents of both estates through improved administration and upgrading of communal areas.”

 

Under the Ministerial Decision, the remaining communal tarmacked and landscaped areas will be transferred to parish management, subject to all areas being put into good order by JPH. It was also agreed that JPH would fund the building of a road extension to allow a number of houses to create front driveway parking, thus assisting with parking pressures in the area.

 

JPH is seeking tenders from local firms for the road repairs and extension. A small portion of that work is due to begin this month, with the main contract starting early in 2014.
