Langtry Gardens ready early

 

The development at Langtry Gardens opposite the Grainville Playing Fields on St Saviour’s Hill comprises 48 social rented apartments, 2 social rented bungalows and a further 30 bungalows being constructed for the Parish of St Saviour. The project is being managed by the Housing Department.

 

The States purchased the land in March 2013 and signed agreements with Dandara Jersey Limited to deliver the £8m project. Work began immediately and has progressed so well that the builders are on course to deliver nearly 80% of the properties 37 weeks early.

 

Funding for the development at Langtry Gardens was approved by the States and advanced to the Housing Department in May 2012 as part of the Treasury Minister’s £27.1 million fiscal stimulus proposal aimed at providing much needed social housing and stimulus for the construction industry.

 

By the end of October all of the social rented housing units will be handed over to Andium Homes, the wholly States-owned social housing company that starts operating in July, and half of the parish bungalows will be completed by the end of January next year.

 

Housing Minister Andrew Green said “There are some very significant benefits to the early completion of these properties, especially for those people waiting for a suitable life-long home. It also means that we can begin work early on other development and refurbishment schemes we have planned, because properties will be freed up for people to move into. All round this is very good news.”

 

Sadie Rennard, Connétable of St Saviour added “I am delighted that the Housing apartments and half of the Parish bungalows are going to be finished so early.  The Parish will be allocating all 32 of its bungalows from its list of parishioners who have been assessed by the Affordable Housing Gateway and we are hoping to have the pre-allocation process and applicants notified within four weeks.”
