Assistant Treasury Minister appointed

01 December 2015

The Treasury and Resources Minister, Senator Alan Maclean, has appointed St Peter Connétable John Refault as an additional Assistant Minister for the department alongside Deputy Edward Noel.

Senator Maclean said that Connétable Refault’s appointment within Treasury would sit well with his established role as Assistant Minister for Health and Social Services as the departments worked together on the proposed construction of a new hospital.

“Connétable Refault has previously served as Assistant Minister to Treasury and Resources in the last government and he therefore brings considerable knowledge and experience of the role. I have already discussed with Connétable Refault the areas that we have agreed that he will take responsibility and accountability for on Treasury and Resources behalf and these will include specific responsibility for The States of Jersey Development Company (SoJDC),” said Senator Maclean.

Private sector experience

Connétable Refault has private sector experience of the property market, and since joining the States, has served as a States nominated director of the Waterfront Enterprise Board (now SoJDC) providing him with a sound working knowledge of the background to the current projects. He also took responsibility for Jersey Property Holdings when he previously held the post of an Assistant Minister for the Treasury. He has previously served as Assistant Minister for Housing prior to the department’s incorporation as Andium Homes.

Senator Maclean said: “His broad-based abilities mean that I have no hesitation in choosing him to be an Assistant Minister and I am delighted he has accepted my invitation to join us at this critical time.”

Connétable Refault said: “Returning to a dual Ministry role is challenging but provides me with the opportunity to use more of my experience and knowledge – much of it gained as a result of my previous role in Treasury. Jersey is approaching a crossroads at which increased spending pressures, proposals for a new Hospital and the need to stimulate our economy will all be coming together. I look forward to meeting the challenges this will present along with my friends and colleagues in the Health and Treasury departments."
