Changes to speed limits

04 April 2018

Speed limits will change on a number of Island roads from 10 April 2018.

The Minister for Infrastructure, Deputy Eddie Noel, has signed a Ministerial Decision implementing changes to the speed limit order required to implement the first phase of the Speed Limit Review.

The first phase includes some changes to roads in St Clement, St John, St Lawrence and St Peter as well as a comprehensive review of speed limits in St Brelade. These changes, which were requested by the parishes, are the first phase of the review programme identified by the Road Safety Action Plan, with other parishes due to roll-out over coming months.

Deputy Noel said “The work carried out to develop Future Jersey shows that Road Safety is important to people in Jersey. Reviewing speed limits to ensure they are suited to the roads, balancing the needs of all road users, is the first step toward our objective to make the Island’s roads safer for everyone. I look forward to being able to sign similar decisions for other parishes over the coming months.”

The changes will make most of the public roads in St Brelade 30mph or lower with a large number of rural roads changing from 40mph to 30mph.

The road signs are currently being installed and drivers are asked to watch out for the changes.
