A Director of Improvement and Innovation has been appointed for Health and Community Services. Dr Anuschka Muller, who's worked for the Government of Jersey since January 2019, will lead the department's improvement and innovation programme.

Anuschka most recently worked as the Director of Strategic Planning and Performance for the Strategic Policy, Planning and Performance department. She delivered Jersey's first integrated four-year Government Plan, established best practice processes to ensure good business planning and reporting, and was responsible for Jersey's first national performance framework, which measures Jersey's journey towards sustainable wellbeing.

Anuschka also established a COVID-19 data and Public Health Intelligence function, which provides daily updates and supports the Scientific and Technical Advisory Group with research and international data.

Before moving to the Island, Anuschka worked as Executive Director of Performance and Improvement for Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust, before which she was Head of Performance and Intelligence for West Sussex County Council.

Anuschka has a PhD in Biology and a postgraduate diploma from Imperial College in Digital Health Leadership. She is also a non-executive director for the What Works Wellbeing Centre, which gathers evidence to inform policy-making on wellbeing matters.

In her new role, as Director of Improvement and Innovation, Anuschka reports to the Director General for Health and Community Services, Caroline Landon, who said: "I am absolutely delighted that Anuschka has joined HCS.

"Her strategic leadership skills and her experience with business planning, performance management and service improvement will help us deliver better and more integrated health and care services.

"Her relentless focus on better outcomes for Islanders will ensure we look across our traditional health care boundaries and work with a wide range of people to improve wellbeing."

The appointment followed the Jersey Appointments Commission's code of conduct for fair and open competition. The role is permanent, and a recruitment process for Anuschka's previous role will begin shortly.
