Two thirds of adult Islanders fully vaccinated

15 July 2021

The latest COVID-19 vaccination statistics as at Sunday 11 July, show that over two thirds (67%) of the Island’s adult population are fully vaccinated.

Islanders aged between 30-39 who have not had their first dose, are urged to make an appointment to protect themselves and the wider community.

Other key statistics:
• 83% of adult Islanders have had one dose
• 79% of Islanders aged over 30 years old are fully vaccinated
• 58% of Islanders aged 18-29 have had one dose
• 72,369 first doses have been administered
• 58,424 second doses have been administered

Head of the Vaccination Programme, Becky Sherrington, said: “It is great news that eight out of every ten Islanders aged over 30 years old are fully vaccinated. We are currently focusing on administering second doses to work towards our target of vaccinating all adult Islanders who booked their first dose before 11 July, to be fully vaccinated by mid-August.

“Those Islanders who have not yet booked their first dose, should make an appointment as soon as possible as vaccine supply and appointments are limited. It is vital that anyone who hasn’t yet booked, makes time to get vaccinated as this will give them and their families protection during the summer, particularly when socialising or travelling.  Vaccination will reduce the risk of infection ruining your summer or missing out on fun.

“The vaccine also reduces the risk of Long Covid and has a 96% efficacy against hospitalisation, so please ensure you get vaccinated to protect yourself, the community, and the health services.”

Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Richard Renouf, said: “I am pleased that two thirds of adults are now fully vaccinated, this will afford those Islanders good protection against Covid, particularly as Islanders are more active and social during the summer. I urge those Islanders who have not yet had their first dose to book an appointment, and those waiting for their second dose will automatically be invited to a second appointment.

“I would also like to reiterate the update from the UK department for Health and Social Care that they are not aware of the European Medicines Agency’s advice to countries to not accept travellers with Astra Zeneca batch numbers 4120Z001, 4120Z002 or 4120Z003. All Astra Zeneca vaccines administered by the UK and Jersey were branded Vaxzevria. No Covishield was brought in by the UK or Jersey, so Islanders should not have any concerns.

“All vaccines are approved by the MHRA before being administered in the UK and Jersey. I encourage Islanders to keep attending their appointments and encourage their friends and families to do the same as this will give Islanders the best defence against severe illness and hospitalisation.”

Islanders can book their first dose online at the COVID-19 Vaccine Appointments page or by ringing the Covid helpline.
