Review of St Martin’s School published

24 November 2022

St Martin’s Primary School has recently been reviewed under the Jersey Schools Review Framework and the report has been published today.

St Martin's School Report

A team of 4 reviewers visited the school between 3 October and 5 October. During this time, the team observed 20 lessons, sampled students work, and spoke to students and school leaders.

Commenting on the report, the Headteacher of St Martin’s School, Chris Godden, said: “I would like to thank the review team for their professionalism and support during the review and in producing this report. The school has been through a period of staff changes recently, so I welcome the recognition that it has emerged positively from these challenges.

“I also welcome the recommendations provided, and as a team we will continue to work reflectively, collaboratively, and effectively to keep improving the school so our pupils can achieve their potential.

“I would like to thank all my staff, for the effort, care, and compassion they continuously show to provide pupils with a caring environment where they can thrive. I would also like to thank the pupils who were polite, confident, and showed a pride in belonging to the school. As the report says they were a credit to themselves, their families, and the school.”

Minister for Children and Education, Deputy Inna Gardiner, said: “I’d like to thank the children, parents, staff and leadership of St Martin’s for their contributions to the review of their school. I would also like to share my appreciation to the reviewers for their professionalism in conducting this review.

“I’m encouraged that St Martin’s School is being recognised for the strength of the relationships between pupils and staff, and between staff and parents.

“Colleagues from the Department of Children, Young People, Education and Skills (CYPES) will continue to work closely with St Martin’s staff on their areas for development and continue to work with all of our schools throughout the year.”

Finf further Information on the Jersey Schools Review Framework.

The Jersey Schools Review Framework was piloted across Government schools from 2016 – 2019. The Framework has been independently evaluated by a leading academic, who has published school and system-wide reviews in the UK and internationally, including for the OECD and for the National College of Education.

Each assessment is undertaken by an independent external lead reviewer, experienced in conducting reviews in other jurisdictions, as well as a Senior Adviser from the Department for Children, Young People, Education and Skills (CYPES) and senior school leaders currently working in Jersey schools. The review team will speak to pupils, consult parents, meet with and survey staff, look at pupils’ work, observe lessons and review school data.

Following each review, the school, parents and CYPES will receive a short report of the findings which will be available on the Jersey Schools Review Framework webpage, where parents and carers can watch videos and read factsheets in English, Polish and Portuguese to find out more about the process.
